I have been a veterinary nurse for 21 years now and I am truly proud to be part of such as skilled and knowledgeable profession. I have worked in a variety of practices from large hospitals to smaller clinics, which I feel has given me a good understanding of the challenges faced by veterinary nurses on a day to day basis. I understand that matters such as improved salaries, more flexible working hours and proper utilisation of nurses and their expertise as skilled professionals are vital in aiding the retention of RVN’s post-qualification.
Other issues I am passionate about include promotion of fear free handling of feline patients at college and post qualification level, as well as improved understanding and support net works for veterinary nurses suffering from chronic illness. I would be privileged to be involved in implementing positive changes in these areas.
I truly believe that this is an exciting time to be a veterinary nurse and I’m optimistic that progression can and will happen to improve the work-life balance and recognition of nurses in our wonderful profession. It would an honour for me to be a part of these positive steps for the future.
