Allo or mutual grooming occurs between two cats o Allo or mutual grooming occurs between two cats of the same social group 🐈🐈 🐾 It involves each cat grooming the other around the head and neck area, but sometimes only one cat will groom the other 🐾 Allogrooming is thought to occur between cats that have a good relationship and are relaxed in each others company. It can help to strengthen their social bond and maintain the group scent 💕💕 🐾 However... This may not always be the case and some studies have shown that allogrooming can occur between cats that have shown to be previously aggressive with each other, possibly as a way of reducing tension or preventing fighting or injury 🐾Cats can also show aggressive behaviours towards each other during or after being groomed and it's not always a pleasurable experience for the groomee! 🐱So there you have it! Sometimes it's a good thing, but not always - it depends on the situation! 📚References Atkinson, T., 2018. Practical feline behaviour: Understanding cat behaviour and improving welfare. 1st ed. Kneading, also known as 'making dough' 'making bis Kneading, also known as 'making dough' 'making biscuits' or my personal favourite... 'making puddings' 😁 is a pretty common behaviour in adult cats, but why do they do it? 🐱Kneading in adult cats is a behaviour that carries over from kittenhood (neotenization), where kittens use the rhythmic movement of their front paws to stimulate milk production at feeding time 🐱Some cats stop this behaviour when they are adults, but others continue, especially around on on their owners, where they will usually purr, knead and sometimes dribble at the same time! 🐱Some cats will also perform this behaviour on really soft or fluffy material such as a fleece blanket or the owners clothing 🐱Lots of cats knead on their owner's laps, which can be a sign they feel safe and content and relaxed in their owner's presence We don't really know the exact reason why this behaviour occurs in adult cats - but it's thought to be associated with pleasure! 🐾Remember not to tell your cat off if it starts to knead on your lap, as this can cause anxiety and it may become tense, causing its claws to dig in your skin even more. If your cat likes to knead on you try covering your lap with a blanket or something thick to protect yourself. 📚References Atkinson, T., 2018. Have you ever thought about how you feed your cat? Have you ever thought about how you feed your cat? 🤔 🐾Cats are designed to spend time and energy hunting and eating their food, so according to feline experts it can be a bit boring if owners just feed their cat out of a bowl! 🐾Cats are also programmed to hunt and eat several small (think mouse sized!) meals a day, rather than two large meals a day. Feeding a large meal can be uncomfortable for cats, as their stomachs are not supposed to be full of large amounts of food. This can also make them more prone to regurgitation. 🐾So..... Making mealtimes interesting and more frequent, with small quantities of food is ideal for cats 🐾Providing several small meals a day where a cat has to work for its food is beneficial for its physical and mental health. This can be achieved by using puzzle feeders such as: 🐱Dry food-
Egg cartons
Cardboard boxes with scrunched up paper in
Plastic water bottles with holes
Cardboard toilet roll holders stacked in a pyramid shape
Shoe box with holes cut out and different size cartons placed through holes
Puzzle balls
Snuffle mats
Plastic or wooden puzzle feeders - there are loads you can buy online or in the shops! 🐱Wet food-
Textured plastic mats
Slow feeders 🐱Owners can also use times feeders when they are at work or asleep and hiding food around the house for their cats to search for and find Tip: Start with a straight forward puzzle feeder on the easiest setting to begin with. This will help your cat to enjoy using the feeder rather than becoming frustrated or just not using it at all 👍 💻❤️🐈For more information on how cats should be fed and puzzle feeding please go to: https://icatcare.org/advice/puzzle-feeders/ http://foodpuzzlesforcats.com/ #catnurse #thecatnurse #cats #catsofinstagram #instacat #catfacts #learnaboutcats #understandyourcat #catbehaviour #catstagram #catcare #catadvice #cattips #catowners #catowner
